The Evening Reset
Have you ever walked into your kitchen in the morning and immediately wished you had cleaned it up the night before?
I think we’ve all been there.
One of the simplest habits we can get into is what we call an evening reset. It’s really just taking a few minutes before you go to bed to straighten up the spaces you’ve used throughout the day.
Maybe you put the dishes in the dishwasher, clear off the kitchen counter, put the mail where it belongs or return the shoes, bags and other things that have been left around the house.
It doesn’t have to take long. Ten minutes can make a big difference.
Clutter has a way of building without us really noticing it. You leave one thing on the counter because you’re going to deal with it later. Then something else gets put next to it. Before you know it, you have a pile that feels like a project.
An evening reset helps keep those little things from turning into bigger things.
But my favorite part of this habit is the way the house feels the next morning.
There’s something really nice about coming downstairs to a clear kitchen counter. Or knowing exactly where your keys are when you’re trying to get out the door. You’re starting the day without yesterday’s stuff waiting for you.
Try it tonight.
Before you head to bed, walk around your home for about ten minutes and put a few things back where they belong. Don’t worry about getting everything done. Just make things a little easier for yourself in the morning.
You may decide it’s a habit worth keeping.
